A FARMER says he is being dwarfed by a maize maze he has grown on his land following recent good weather – and which promises to provide an even tougher challenge for visitors.

Paul Caygill, who runs Easingwold Maize Maze, on the outskirts of the North Yorkshire market town, says the sweetcorn crop has now reached eight foot tall and shows no sign of stopping.

“A combination of rain at the right time and excellent growing condition have meant the maize has now reached a record height,” he said.

“In previous years we have been waiting for the maize to get its act together but not this time.”

Another popular feature at the family attraction was Daisy, who was believed to be Britain’s oldest pygmy goat.

She reached the grand old age of 19 – nearly double the average ten year life span for a pygmy goat – but sadly passed away earlier this year.

But her legacy lives on with the arrival of her great-great-great-grandchildren last week.

When Easingwold Maize Maze reopens for the summer on Monday, it will again feature a host of other attractions including go karts, giant inflatable slide, foot-golf and rabbits, guinea pigs, duckling, sheep and pygmy goats will be on show in the children’s petting area. The maze opens from Monday, July 24 until Monday, September 3.
