A WATER company is investing more than £800,000 to safeguard supplies for future generations in a rural village.

Northumbrian Water began refurbishing Cotherstone Pipe Bridge, also known as Balder Bridge, in the Teesdale village of Cotherstone, County Durham, today (Friday, July 21).

The work is being carried out by the water company’s delivery partner, Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) and will also include the repair of a large diameter water pipe in the area.

There will be no traffic management in place during the work and access to the working site will be from the south of the B6277. The overall refurbishment is expected to be completed by February next year.

Richard Johnson, Northumbrian Water’s project manager, said: “These essential works will help maintain great tasting water for local residents and safeguard water supplies for future generations to come.

“We are working closely with MMB and Durham County Council to make sure any disruption is kept to a minimum during the course of the work and I’d urge people to keep an eye on the community portal for any updates.”

Customers can be kept informed throughout the project by using the online community portal at nwlcommunityportal.co.uk or by calling 0345-717-1100 and requesting for a call back from the project team.
