SPEEDING in a village has become such a problem it has been referred to a specialist police department.
The latest Community Speedwatch on Bridge Street in Howden-le-Wear found 28 out of 108 vehicles were travelling above the 30mph limit, with speeds ranging from 36mph to 45mph. This means the issue is now serious enough to be referred to Durham Police’s traffic management team, and could result in new traffic calming measures and visits from the force’s safety camera van.
PCSO Nathan Moore reported the findings at the Howden-le-Wear PACT meeting on Wednesday.
The next meeting will take place at Howden-le-Wear Primary School on August 16, at 6.30pm. It is hoped traffic management officer Paul Emerson will speak at the following meeting in September.
