A SCHOOL has issued a warning to pupils to expect "sanctions" if they do not comply with a ban on mobile phones in the classroom.

Longfield Academy has sent a letter to parents warning them of a crackdown on phones and electronic devices.

From September, pupils will be expected to hand such items in at the beginning of the school day, to be stored in a secure location until the final bell goes.

The letter, from headteacher Susan Johnson, says: “As you are aware, at Longfield we are very proud of our high expectations for behaviour, conduct and academic progress in all areas of the school.

“To further support this ethos and ensure that all of our pupils are fully engaged with daily school life, we are asking pupils to ensure that mobile phones and electronic devices are not seen anywhere on site during the school day.

“We believe strongly that all pupil efforts should be dedicated to improving academic progress during lesson time and that social times should involve healthy and meaningful interactions with their peers.”

It goes on to say that pupils would face the “usual behaviour sanctions” if they do not comply with the new rules and that parents or carers will be expected to collect any devices that are confiscated by staff.

The sanctions have been included in the school’s behaviour policy. The letter says further details about the guidelines being introduced next term are available at longfield.uk.com
