EMERGENCY: The incident happened at HMP Durham.
A MAN was taken to hospital after suffering a heart attack while at a prison gym.
The man, who was in his 50s, collapsed at around 8am on Tuesday. It is unclear whether the man was an inmate or a member of staff.
The Great North Air Ambulance was called to Durham Prison, in the city centre, but the man was taken to University Hospital of North Durham by road ambulance.
His condition was described as ‘critical’.
