ONE of the most popular events in the Wensleydale social calendar celebrates its tenth anniversary - as Leyburn hosts its 1940s weekend.

Feeding the seemingly endless appetite for nostalgia, the two-day festival sees several thousand visitors converge on the Dales town.

The Market Place will be the focus for all things 1940s with music, singing, dancing, stalls and vintage vehicles in abundance.

Many of the visitors are resplendent in fancy uniforms or stylish outfits and are happy just to take in the surrounds and pose for the occasional photograph.

Throughout the weekend most of the shops, cafes and pubs also turn back the clock 70 years with their staff sporting period clothing and hairstyles.

Several exhibitions with photographs are on display the Methodist Hall until Sunday, when there will also be a parade featuring a pipe band.

Organiser Hannah Russell said: “It seems incredible that the event has been going 10 years and it continues to grow."

The event runs on Saturday and Sunday. For more visit leyburn1940sweekend.org/
