MORE than 1,500 dogs descended on a Darlington park today to take part in a charity’s canine fun day.

Dogs Trust Darlington held its annual summer fun day at South Park in Darlington, with fun competitions including best puppy, best Golden Oldie, most fabulous female and most handsome dog.

There were also games including egg and spoon, dogs dinner and musical mats.

Dogs were being microchipped for free and there were also activities to keep children entertained.

One of the most popular parts of the show, which has been held since 1994, is a Rehoming Parade, which shows off some of the dogs from the shelter, at Sadberge near Darlington, which need rehoming.

Gordon Norrie, of Dogs Trust Darlington, said: “It has been a fantastic day with about 1,500 dogs. Our shows were more popular than ever before.

“The event definitely gets bigger and bigger every year and I think we will have definitely raised more money than we did last year, as well as hopefully rehoming some of the dogs.”
