HOUSEHOLD items are needed for women and children who flee abuse with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Middlesbrough’s My Sister’s Place is appealing for donations to help survivors of domestic abuse rebuild their lives.

They need items including toasters, kettles, cutlery, microwaves, new bedding, towels and toiletries. Parcels of dried or tinned food would also be welcomed.

Spokeswoman Vicky Fisher said: “We help more than 1,000 women a year, and their children.

“Many of them come to our door when they are in crisis with nothing and no safe home to go to.

“They’ll have no belongings or maybe a bin bag with a couple of their children’s toys in it.

“They won’t be able to go home for safety reasons and the whole process can be very stressful.

“These items will help us to give these women and children a fresh start. Giving someone something like a kettle so that they can have a cup of tea helps to make their house a home.”
