A POET shared her experiences of being a migrant with students last week.

As part of a tour of the North-East, Canadian author Theresa Munoz visited Darlington’s Longfield Academy, Haughton Academy and Springfield Primary.

Ms Munoz shared her work and discussed ideas around identity, relationships and belonging with pupils.

She spoke about the challenges involved in incorporating her own Filipino-Canadian culture with her lifestyle in Edinburgh, where she now lives.

Pupils took part in workshops and created their own poems inspired by Ms Munoz’s visit, part of the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour.

She said: “I was extremely excited to be part of the tour and enjoyed creating and exploring how poetry works with bright young minds in Teesside.”

Haughton Academy pupil, 12-year-old Jessica, said: “Meeting Theresa was interesting because she told us about her life story and helped us to write some poems. She inspired me to write my own.”
