RUNNERS of all ages are warming up for two of the North-East’s most picturesque races.

The Auckland Castle Trail Race and Fun Run will return to Bishop Auckland for the third year on Sunday, August 28.

Organised in partnership with Shildon Running and Athletic Club and Auckland Castle Trust, both races centre are centred around the 900-year-old castle.

The two-mile fun run is designed for younger runners and follows a gentle path through the castle’s deer park. It is open to under-16s of all abilities, although children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

The five mile trial race welcomes runners looking for a little more of a challenge, following a multi-terrain course that takes in the sights of Auckland Castle and the surrounding parkland.

Volunteers are also needed to help on the day, with a minimum of 15 marshals required.

Ed Murphy, from Shildon Running and Athletic Club, said: “Shildon Running and Athletic club is delighted to continue its partnership with Auckland Castle Trust and we are really excited for this year’s event.”

Entry closes on August 21. To book, visit aucklandcastle.org or via email trial@aucklandcastle.org priced at £9 for the trial race and £4 for the fun run. To volunteer as a marshal contact Mr Murphy on 07473-803000.
