DARLINGTON’S diverse community will be represented with the creation of a giant patchwork banner.

The White Rose Darlington movement is appealing for organisations, charities and individuals to get creative and contribute to their latest project.

The organisation – dedicated to promoting peace and tolerance across the town – is inviting people to create their own patchwork square, to be incorporated into their new banner.

A spokesman for White Rose Darlington said: “We wanted a project which would symbolise the diverse communities that live in Darlington and came up with the idea of a banner to which everyone could contribute.

“We’d like to see the centre piece, a large white rose, surrounded by patchwork squares with images representing individuals and groups.”

White Rose Darlington was launched in the wake of the death of MP Jo Cox and is inspired by the original White Rose movement, who were non-violent, intellectual protestors during WWII.

Designs for the banner should include a white rose and can also include logos. They should be on a six inch square of cotton fabric, with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Anyone making a square or who would like information, can email whiterosedarlington@gmail.com.
