COUNCILLORS have agreed to allow the demolition of a former Victorian school to make way for a housing development in heart of a village, despite concerns about parking.
Durham County Council’s area planning committee (north) approved 14 new houses at the Wood View Community Centre, in Wood View, Langley Park.
The Derwentside Homes development will comprise four two-bedroom bungalows while the remainder while the remainder will be in a terrace of two-bed houses.
There were six objections on grounds of parking.
Planning officers said it was not the developer’s responsibility to accommodate existing need but to provide for demand from the scheme. Highways officers said adequate provision had been made for off-street parking.
