ONE person was slightly injured in a crash involving a car and a lorry on the A19 northbound at Easington as rain continues to cause problems in the region. 

A Durham Police spokesman said: “There has been a two-vehicle collision involving a car and HGV on the A19 northbound at Easington. "Emergency services were alerted at 10.15am. 


"One person is believed to have been slightly injured, but no one was taken to hospital."
Lane one was closed for a number of hours, while the road was cleared. 

The spokesman added: “We are reminding motorists to drive to the circumstances as roads are slippery.”

Last night, a scooter rider lost control in Seaham.

"The man drove into an unseen deep section of standing water, causing him to lose control and come off the scooter," said a spokesman for Durham Police.

"The 26-year-old suffered serious injuries after the collision on Westlea Road and was transported to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.

"Drivers please take extra precautions in adverse weather conditions including heavy rain, high winds and standing water."

Five cars collided on the outskirts of Coundon, near Bishop Auckland, this morning.

The accident occurred on the A689 at about 8.45am and the road was partially blocked for just over two hours.

A police spokesperson has confirmed five vehicles were involved in the collision and there are reports of three to four minor injuries.

Durham County Council was called to the scene to deal with a diesel spillage, which was made worse by the rain.

The road reopened at 11am but police remained on the scene until the council arrived.
