A SEASIDE town will be celebrating summer in style with a fun-filled day of entertainment.

Visitors to Saltburn were able to mark the 133th anniversary of the opening of the cliff lift today and on Saturday it is the official opening of the new beach huts along the lower promenade.

Councillor Dale Quigley, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's cabinet member for culture, tourism and communications, said: “I’m so excited for the Redcar and Cleveland community to enjoy this amazing weekend we have planned.

“There’s something for everyone at Saltburn, and it’s a perfect way to start the summer. Two weeks ago our figures for passengers using the Saltburn Cliff Tramway almost doubled on average to 3,800 people over the weekend, so it’s really exciting to see so many people out at the beach at Saltburn and in the Redcar area.

“I hope that families take advantage of the brilliant weather and enjoy a fun family day out on the beach.”

A range of fun activities are also being held on the Lower Promenade as part of the celebrations on Saturday including Punch and Judy shows; circus skills workshops; a sandcastle competitions; and traditional swing boats.
