PATIENTS from an under-threat surgery have been left “extremely disappointed” after hearing investment was planned at another branch.

At a public meeting attended by about 100 residents and councillors in Trimdon Village, Skerne Medical Group was unable to give assurances over its long-term commitment to the practice but revealed plans to expand its Sedgefield base.

Trimdon Village surgery was closed this month temporarily due to “unprecedented circumstances” as a result of a GP shortage.

Cllr Peter Brookes said: “People were aghast that they had money to do an extension in Sedgefield and not invest in a safe, quality primary care service in Trimdon Village.”

It is understood services from its Fishburn and Trimdon Colliery branches will be taken to prop up Trimdon Village.

Cllr Brookes added there was a “lack of equity”.

A campaign to fight to save and improve services in the village continues.

Neil Bunney, group practice manager, said proposals for Sedgefield would add extra space and improve clinical and administrative facilities.

He said: “We are currently reviewing the clinical and reception staffing levels across the whole practice and finalising the services we can safely provide ahead of re-opening Trimdon Village surgery from July 17.”

Mr Bunney said: “The practice’s position will be reviewed in September 2017 with the Clinical Commissioning Group.

“If a full public consultation is required on how future medical services can be provided across the Skerne Medical Group, due process will be followed.”
