A PRIMARY school has received an internationally recognised eco award for its work on sustainability and the need for a greener planet for the future.
As part of the work carried out to be granted the Green Flag status, children at Cockton Hill Infants School, in Bishop Auckland, have been learning about energy, water, bio diversity, school grounds, healthy living, transport, litter waste and global citizenship.
The focussed their attention on sustainable transport, development of our school grounds and healthy living.
In addition to the Green Flag award, staff and pupils have also worked hard to achieve the UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award.
The youngsters discovered about their rights as a child as part of the curriculum, through assemblies and within daily school life.
Discussions included the right to learn, play, be safe, have an opinion, be heard, have clean water, healthy food and medical care.
The school held a coffee afternoon to raise awareness about the need for a fair price for farmers worldwide and it raised money for Water Aid.
