ORGANISERS of a successful apprenticeship scheme which has trained more than 120 young people say there is a shortage of youngsters coming forward.
The North York Moors National Park Authority has through its apprenticeship programme offered extensive training, but say there is currently a lack of people signing up to be trained.
Ian Nicholls, assistant director of corporate services told the authority that tools used by the apprentices and a Land Rover have been sponsored through the scheme and several national awards had been won because of the success of the programme.
But, he added:"The picture in North Yorkshire is that there not enough young people looking for apprenticeships."
He said apprentices were being more selective in what they chose to do, and on what was being offered.
