A FAMILY lawyer who volunteers for The Children’s Society has been recognised for helping to improve the lot of vulnerable youngsters.
Helen Tate, from Stokesley, North Yorkshire, was invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace by Her Majesty The Queen.
The aim was to celebrate the outstanding contributions made by inspirational people working unselfishly to improve the welfare of others.
The 48-year-old joined The Children’s Society in 2013 and has spent the last four years travelling across the North-East to speak up for vulnerable young people and advocate for changes in the law to make life better for children.
She has also raised children’s issues with the Government and helped promote the charity’s campaigns on issues such as child sexual exploitation and child poverty.
Mrs Tate said she was privileged to represent The Children’s Society at such a high profile event and described it as just like a “fairy tale”.
She said: “It was a shock and honour to be invited. I will remember the event forever.”
Sarah Wayman, campaign manager for The Children’s Society, said: “Helen is a true example of someone who goes the extra mile to support our cause, and is dedicated to making a difference in children’s lives.”
