YOUNGSTERS are making the final preparations for an innovative science and engineering project.

Pupils at Barton CE primary are working with Darlington-based Cummins to create their Goblin racing car for the Greenpower race event at Croft Circuit.

Executive headteacher Sharon Stevenson said: “This project has been an exciting introduction into engineering, design and motor racing.

"By working alongside engineers from Cummins and racing driver Max Coates, the children have learned about the world of work and we are hoping to inspire the next generation of engineers.

"They have been motivated to work hard and follow their dreams - then anything is possible."

To help them prepare for the event racing driver Max came into school and explained about his life and being part of a professional team.

Class Three pupils enjoyed the experience of trying on the race clothing and considering health and safety implications at the race track.

“The pupils were very keen to try on the clothing and asked some excellent questions," said Max. I wish them every success at the event and know they will try their very hardest."
