SERVING and retired firefighters from the region came together at the weekend to celebrate the anniversary of one of the country’s oldest fire engine rallies.
Hundreds of people turned out for the annual Fire Engine and Vintage Vehicle Rally, held at Preston Park in Eaglescliffe, which took place on Saturday and Sunday.
The event, now in its 36th year, saw a host of modern and vintage fire engines, along with a selection of vintage cars, military and commercial vehicles and farm machinery.
Additional attractions at the show included craft and food stalls, side shows, a fun fair, trade stands and auto-jumble stalls.
There was also bungee trampolines, arena displays and emergency services demonstrations.
Also featuring this year was a live performance from ‘Swampthing – the 4x4 Monster Truck display act’, as well as ‘The White Helmets – the motorcycle display team of The Royal Corps of Signals’ which will be one of their last performances this summer before the team is disbanded.
A spokesperson for the event said: “It was a fantastic line up and it was great to welcome everybody over the weekend - we hope everyone enjoyed it.”
