INMATES will serving more than porridge when they take over a restaurant next month.

Middlesbrough’s Fork in the Road will be staffed by prisoners for a Sunday dinner with a difference.

On Sunday, July 2, inmates from Kirklevington Grange Prison will be preparing and serving meals at the restaurant.

The initiative, which aims to equip the prisoners with employment skills for the future, is part of the restaurant’s on-going mission to “create jobs and opportunities for everyone, including those who deserve a second chance.”

A statement from Fork in the Road said the event would be the first time the restaurant had opened on a Sunday, adding: “Traditional Sunday roasts and gorgeous starters and puddings will be served, vegetarian options will be available.

“Porridge is definitely not on the menu.”

  • Places are limited and can be booked by calling 01642 243552. Prices start at £12.95 for one course.
