STREETS and lanes in Darlington are set to be surveyed to establish flood risks and how water damage to homes can be prevented.

Northumbrian Water will carry out its Rainwise initiative to learn more about how the town’s sewer network can cope with more rain and hard surfaces that cannot absorb water.

As part of the flood risk assessment, residents are being urged to visit the water company’s community vehicle, which will be parked up on the Market Square on Monday, June 26, between 9am and 5pm.

Project manager, Peter Greenan, said: “It’s about coming into Darlington, speaking to local residents face to face and making sure that our information and the models are right.

“Working on our behalf, our trusted partners, Mott MacDonald Bentley will be carrying out the investigation work to better understand the risks and cause of flooding in the area.

“However we want local people to come along and talk to us about any flooding they may have experienced or any surface water issues they may have.”
