A NATIONAL chain of bars is set to open a new venue in an empty pub on the banks of the River Wear.
Revolution, which has more than 50 bars across the country, including seven in the North-East, wants to open a new drinking and eating establishment in Durham.
The chain has applied to Durham County Council to make changes to the former Bishop Langley pub, on Framwelgate Bridge, which closed at the end of last year.
It wants to put a retractable roof over the terraced area to increase its use through the year and improve its appearance.
A statement by the applicant said: “The works are consistent with the building’s setting and will make a valuable contribution to its long term use and the enjoyment of the surrounding heritage assets – enabling yearlong views and enjoyment of the bridge, river and castle.”
