POLICE are not treating the death of a man whose body was found in a town centre flat as suspicious.

The 25-year-old's body was discovered yesterday afternoon at his flat in Clarks Yard, Darlington.

Police were unable to confirm his identity but he has been named locally and on social media as Matthew Archbank, who was a father and originally from Newton Aycliffe.

A Durham police spokesperson: "We can confirm a body of a man was found at a property in Clarks Yard, Darlington, yesterday afternoon.

"Police are treating the death as non-suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."

Friends and relatives turned to social media to pay tribute to Mr Archbank, who is understood to have been unwell.

Posting on Facebook, cousin Sean Michael Hall said: "Can't actually believe you're gone man!! Guess it's true God only takes the best of us."

Paige Evans added: "I'm still in shock and just can't believe it. So upset. He will be hugely missed. He was a fantastic father and loved his family to bits! Fly high cousin, will never be forgotten!"

Rhi Gledhill wrote: "I'm lost for words I really am. Everyone is. Such a beautiful soul, we are all sending our love and prayers to your close friends and family."

"One of the nicest, most genuine lads I've ever met! Thinking of your family and your little girl at this awful time! Fly high Archie!" wrote Abby Hepple.
