THE newly reformed Shildon branch of the Royal British Legion will host an event for Armed Forces Day this Saturday.

The event will take place at the town’s recreation ground from 10.30am till 4.30pm and will be opened by the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, Sue Snowdon and Shildon Town Mayor Councillor Shirley Quinn.

There will also be a display by the Red Devils Parachute Display Team as well as several military displays, police officers and fire fighters and a variety of stalls.

A spokesperson for Shildon branch of the RBL said: “The aim of the day is to provide family entertainment, and to give the public the opportunity to not only thank our serving personnel for their service to the country but also to learn about the current roles that are available to them.

“We are looking forward to seeing a good turn out on the day.”

There will be children’s rides, amusements and refreshments available throughout the event and entry is free.

Arriva are also providing free transport to and from the Armed Forces Day event for past and present service men and women, and Toby Carvery are offering free breakfast.
