A GARAGE owner whose has been targeted by burglars several times has expressed his anger after burglars targeted his family home.

Martin Wilson, owner of M. Wilson & Co, has suffered three break-ins over the last four months, resulting in thousands of pounds worth of bikes being stolen.

But earlier this week, Mr Wilson, who has premises on Coburg Street and Lodge Street, was left fuming after his home, which he shares with his partner in Darlington, was targeted during the middle of the night.

Two trials bikes, which cost Mr Wilson £8,000 in total, were stolen during the night of Monday, June 12 and early hours of the following morning.

Mr Wilson, 63, said burglars have previously entered his body shop, which he uses for repairing vehicles, through the roof.

“I wasn’t happy that they targeted my business, but now they have done it to my home, and that is the final straw,” said Mr Wilson

“I have friends who have suffered as well, and nobody ever finds the bikes – we are a very small group and we all know what each other’s bike looks like.

“It has really affected my partner – it is really stressful for her,” he added.

Mr Wilson established his business in 1974 and offers a range of services for car or light commercial vehicles.

“I have no idea why I am being targeted – I am always at work, I never upset anyone, and I always keep a low profile.

“I am incensed with it – all I seem to be able to is slow them down with alarms, not actually solve the problem

“I started with nothing, and I have had to work my way up and look after stuff, and it just gets robbed from you.”

A spokesperson for Durham Police confirmed they were “actively investigating” the burglary to Mr Wilson’s home.

The force also confirmed they had investigated a burglary to Mr Wilson’s business premises on Coburg Street in January.

“We conducted a thorough investigation involving house to house enquiries, reviewed forensic opportunities and CCTV footage,” the spokesperson said.

“We also interviewed potential witnesses and circulated images of the stolen property to all relevant partners and officers in Darlington, but unfortunately this did not result in the identification of the suspect,” they added.
