A LANDOWNER will provide a rare glimpse into part of Swaledale’s industrial past next month.
Richard Lamb is inviting people to join him for a tour of the high and low lead smelting mills on his land at Marrick on Saturday, July 22.
One of the mills is reputedly on the site of Yorkshire’s first smelting mill from 1574, and visitors will be able to examine and interpret the remaining structures and their function within the landscape. These include three dams, two peat houses, various ancillary buildings, the flue and two mills.
The two-hour tours set off at 10.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Tickets cost £6 and must be booked in advance.
Mr Lamb will also speak about Grinton Mill at Swaledale Museum in Reeth on Wednesday, June 21, at 7.30pm. Admission is £4.
To book, contact 01748-884118.
