DRIVERS are being warned of potential delays when road resurfacing work takes place in the next few days.

The work will mean temporary road closures in the village of Witton Gilbert, near Durham City for four days starting on Sunday.

Highways engineers from Durham County Council plan to resurface a stretch of the B6312 Sacriston Lane with work taking place from 7am to 7pm each day.

The resurfacing will be carried out in three phases with the road closed where work is taking place, from south of the junction with Deneside to the junction with May Lea.

Diversions will be in operation via the A691 and B6532 while work takes place.

John Reed, the council’s strategic highways manager, said: “This scheme is part of our ongoing programme to maintain the road network across the county.

“We appreciate there will be some disruption to drivers but we have planned the project to ensure this is kept to a minimum”.

Mr Reed added: “I’d like to thank drivers in advance for their patience and understanding while this work is carried out.”
