A JURY has been sworn in for the trial of a man accused of murdering a North-East grandfather.

Daniel Johnson, 21, has been charged with the murder of David Wilson, 49, who died inside an address in Southwick, Sunderland, on December 14 2014.

At Newcastle Crown Court a jury was selected and sworn in after being told the the names of more than 50 witnesses expected to give evidence. They were then told the case would start tomorrow.

After giving the jury formal instructions, Mr Justice Males told them: "There is an issue I am going to deal with this afternoon, which means we will wait until tomorrow for the prosecution to open the case and tell you what it is all about and what the prosecution say the allegations are.

"It will get properly underway then."

No details were given about Mr Wilson's death, or Mr Johnson's alleged involvement.

Mr Johnson, formerly of Morris Street, Gateshead, was remanded in custody.
