SECRETS, myths and medieval legends will be brought into the modern day as part of a summer performance of an epic poem penned by a North-East poet.
Teesside University creative writing academic, Bob Beagrie, wrote Leasungspell – set in 657AD – which tells the tale of a monk walking from the monastery on the Hartlepool Headland to Whitby, carrying secret letters to St Hilda.
The poem, which draws on the region’s mythical history, is written in a hybrid of Old English and Northern dialect.
Mr Beagrie’s epic tale is now being taken on a national Arts Council England tour, which will include a performance at Gisborough Priory on Friday, June 30, from 7pm.
The poet said: “We are delighted to have the chance to perform this unique show within the ruins of the ancient priory, in a setting so steeped in history.”
Tickets priced at £5 or £4 concessions are available at the Gisborough Priory Visitor Centre.
