ENTRIES can still be made for what is hoped will become an iconic annual run, set against an historic backdrop of a World Heritage site.

Organisers hope the second Durham City Run will attract an entry of 2,000-plus to beat the figure taking part in the maiden event, last summer.

Optional routes over courses of 5,000 and 10,000 metres, both starting in the Market Place and ending on Palace Green, between the cathedral and castle, will give participants the challenge of tackling Durham’s cobbled streets and undulating city centre road network.

But there is an amended route from last year, taking competitors in the 10k event over a different course in the second half of the race, to avoid some of the bunching which slightly affected the initial run.

The run, on Wednesday July 19, starting at 7.15pm, is organised by Events of the North, and supported by Durham County Council.

Entry costs £24 for the 10k run, or £22 for members of affiliated clubs, while the charges are £15 and £13 for the 10k.

All entrants will have free access to the city’s park and ride site, at Belmont, with a medal, t-shirt and goody bag for all finishers.

Entries can be made via www.durhamcityrun.com, which contains further details about the event.
