A SEARCH is underway for a missing person after clothes were found on a beach in Seaham this morning.

Hartlepool RNLI carried out a search of an area between Horden and Seaham at 11am this morning, but were stood down after nothing was found after more than an hour of searching.

Durham Police believe the clothes belong to a man, whose identity and address is unknown. They have released a photograph of a person they believe the clothes belong to.

A spokesperson for Hartlepool RNLI said: “Hartlepool RNLI inshore lifeboat and volunteer crew were paged at 10.48am to take part in a search for a missing person after clothes were found on a beach in the Seaham area.

“The inshore lifeboat launched at 11.00am and made a thorough search of an area between Horden and Seaham for over an hour with nothing found before being stood down by Humber Coastguard at 12.10.

“The lifeboat returned to Hartlepool lifeboat station at 12.30 where it was made ready for service by 12.50.”
