AN OLDER white man racially abused two Asian men on a bus travelling from Middlesbrough to Redcar on Wednesday evening.

Police are asking the two victims to come forward after another passenger reported that they had suffered racial abuse. The victims themselves did not report the incident.

The member of the public, travelling on the number 63 bus, reported that the two men were verbally abused by an older white man, at about 6.25pm on Wednesday, May 24.

Immediately after the incident the victims got off the bus as it approached Stewart Park.

The perpetrator is described as being an older white male with white hair and wearing a blue checked shirt, blue body warmer and yellow trousers.

A police spokeswoman said: "We would like to thank the person who did the right thing and reported this incident to police. Whilst incidents of this type remain low in the Cleveland Police area, officers are determined to protect all sections of our community and will robustly investigate reports of racial harassment."

Police would also like any other people from the bus who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Witnesses and the victims are being asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 with information. Alternatively, if the men do not want to speak to police they can report the incident via True Vision, on its website, www.report-it.org.uk
