THE opening weekend of Dino Jaws saw herds of dino-loving visitors of all ages heading to Life Science Centre in Newcastle to catch a glimpse of the prehistoric creatures in all of their glory.

The exhibition – which has come to Newcastle from the Natural History Museum (NHM) in London – was officially launched last night (Friday 26 May), at an event attended by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Linda Wright.

Speaking at the launch event, Dr Alex Burch, Head of Exhibitions, Learning and Outreach at NHM, said: “In creating any exhibition, the Natural History Museum works very closely with its scientists, and I know that this is something that

Life Science Centre does too.

"This, together with its desire to create those sparks of interest in visitors’ minds – no matter their age – means we’re perfect partners for Dino Jaws and exhibitions in the future.”

Dino Jaws explores the secrets of dinosaurs’ diets and investigates how they caught and devoured their meal of choice.

It features a whole host of amazing dinosaur models, including life-size animatronic heads and realistic full body models.

“People love dinosaurs!” said Linda Conlon, Chief Executive of the Centre for Life, where Life Science Centre is based.

“We’re delighted by the public reaction to Dino Jaws today and are looking forward to welcoming even more visitors during the half-term break and beyond.”

Any visitors that manage to make it through the exhibition - without being eaten! - will have the chance to explore the rest of Life Science Centre, including the 4D Motion Ride (must be at least 1.2 metres in height), live science demos in the Science Theatre and stunning shows in the North’s biggest planetarium, as well as the chance to get hands-on with science in Life’s interactive zones.
