THE Skylive Airshow took off in style today when thousands of people took the opportunity to enjoy some aerial displays – despite a heavy downpour leaving fans ducking for cover.

Durham Tees Valley airport hosted the second annual event where deafening airborne and arena-based entertainment proved a winner for visitors.

Displays from the Royal Air Force’s Eurofighter Typhoon team and a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight were expected to be launched from the airport throughout the day.

Action at the event organised by Teesside businessmen Chris Petty and Steve Davies also included static displays of cockpits, bombers and helicopters, alongside military vehicles.
