A HOST of former North-East footballers are turning out in a charity match tomorrow at Coxhoe Athletic.
Former Hartlepool United players Jason Ainsley, Tommy Miller, Brian Honour and Matty Robson are among those playing in memory of Gemma Robson – Matty’s sister – who died suddenly in January aged only 35.
Although she suffered from lupus, her death came as a huge shock to those who knew her, and organisers of the game are hoping for a big turnout.
An organiser said: “Gemma was a very popular person in the village. She just got on with life and was a bundle of fun.
“She was a well-respected prison officer and very popular in Coxhoe.”
Also playing in the match, which kicks-off at 11am, is local hero John Parnaby, ex-Sunderland defender Martin Scott, and Mark Summerbell and Ross Turnbull, who are both formerly with Middlesbrough.
The game will be refereed by George Courtney.
There will be entertainment after the match at the Red Lion pub along with a raffle and auction.
