IT was a memorable weekend for the club when, as part of its 40th Anniversary celebrations, almost 50 members took part in a relay over the course of the Lyke Wake Walk, a distance of 40 or so miles. David Read conceived and organised the logistics for this event, and is to be congratulated and thanked on its smooth running. The legs were between

3 and 10 miles, with a Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers "baton" was passed from group to group - the baton produced by a yarnbomber, I think, and some testing hills and descents to be covered! After a wet week, the club was fortunate that the day dawned fine for the early start at Ravenscar, and the rain only came for the last hour or so. A couple of runners managed to get into bogs - and were rescued - but otherwise there were no incidents. The finish was, of course, at Osmotherley, and after a shower and change of clothes, all enjoyed a very nice meal.

Such an event would not happen without support vehicles, and thanks are expressed for those members who spent their day ferrying runners to and from start and finishing points, and also to Andy Butcher for his photographs all day. Presentations were made to David Read, and all members received a comemorative scroll of the day, superbly devised by Marc Davies, and in the form of a map of the route with land marks along the way.

Everyone who took part felt priviledged to belong to such a friendly and caring club, which is certainly destined to continue for at least another 40 years!
