RESIDENTS can have their say on plans to build 16 affordable homes in Willington next week.

County Durham Housing Group is staging a public consultation event at Willington Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 31, from 4pm to 6pm.

The three-bedroom homes would be built on land in Railway Terraces to the north of the town and would be available on a rent-to-buy scheme once complete.

Featuring high levels of insulation, the latest heating systems and double glazing; they are said to bring big savings to tenants win comparison to older homes, particularly those in the private rented sector.

County Durham Housing Group head of development and commercial property, Kate Abson, said: “These new homes could help to meet demand for high quality and affordable new homes in Willington. We want to hear what local people think about the proposals and to answer any questions they may have about the potential development.”

Staff from County Durham Housing Group will be on hand to talk about the project and there will be detailed plans to view.

The development is part of the group’s 297 new home build programme between the Tyne and Tees across a three-year period. By 2020, the it will have invested £32m across 17 sites.
