A HOUSING developer is hoping to secure planning permission for 16 new houses in Chilton.

Plans have been submitted to Durham County Council to develop brown land off Durham Road that was once a car showroom.

The application details a mix of three and four bedroom, semi-detached and short terrace houses, each with private back gardens and car parking spaces.

A statement submitted with the application reads: “The housing development is clearly suitable in the context of surrounding land uses, which are largely residential, and it will comprise a significant visual improvement upon the current low quality site with negligible implications for the local road network.

“We respectfully request that the Council resolves to grant planning permission subject to any conditions they deem appropriate on this occasion.”

  • Members of the public have until Thursday, June 1, to comment on the plans which can be viewed online at: publicaccess.durham.gov.uk/online-applications with reference DM/17/01440/FPA
