A MOTHER has told how she and her daughter escaped the Manchester terror attack by a matter of seconds.

Giving her name as Katie from Newcastle, she came to the Ariana Grande concert with her 12-year-old daughter Molly.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live, she said: "Ariana had just sang her last encore song, so we left pretty much straight away after that.

"There was parents waiting in the foyer area for their kids to come out. We were 20 seconds out them doors and there was an almighty bang went off.

"We turned around and there was just smoke billowing. You couldn't see, you couldn't see the doors. It was just black and everyone just started screaming and running so I just grabbed her and just took off.

"Thankfully, we were just in the Premier Inn, just here, so it was pretty straightforward getting home."

Asked if she felt the explosion, Katie said: "It was so loud, it was ridiculously loud. It shook. It was so scary, it was the worst thing I have ever been in in my life.

"You hear the bang and you think 'God, what the hell was that?' But then you turn around, see the smoke and everyone screaming, it's the first thing that pops into your head, that a bomb has just gone off.

"There was speculation that it was balloons, but I saw those balloons and there is absolutely no way they could have created that much smoke."

Asked if she saw anyone injured, Katie said: "No, we were in front of it, so we were one of the first ones out.

"We were close, but we were in front of it, so we didn't see the aftermath of what it had created.

"I just got my daughter and just ran because you don't know if there was another person who is going to do it again. People were saying there was gunshots, you just don't know, I don't want to be there, I don't want my daughter there.

"Since I have woke up, just the shock, especially the death count, 20 seconds earlier and it could have been my daughter. It's dreadful to think about. It's awful."
