SCORES of people, young and old, turned out to enjoy an annual medieval spectacular at the weekend.

Sedgefield Medieval Fair, which is now in its 47th year, was packed with living history displays, historic re-enactments, country dancing, knights fighting and a tug of war.

The all-day event kicked-off with a parade of schoolchildren from the primary schools, led by the Flower Queen, nine-year-old, Emily Kime, and her attendants, Emilia McGirr, Keira Quinn, both nine and Eva Young, seven.

It is organised by Sedgefield Community Association volunteers, with the support of local businesses and residents who undertake a bucket collection to raise vital funds in advance of the event.

Organiser Maxine Robinson said: β€œIt went really well. We had fine weather and lots of people and the parade was absolute joy.”
