IT is 50 years since the Teesside Yesteryear Motor Club was formed and on Sunday, May 14, it is holding its annual Classic Car and Motorcycle Show at Hurworth Grange on the southern outskirts of Darlington.

The club was formed in 1966, inspired by the formation on Tyneside of the North-East Club for Pre-War Austins. Explorations led by Charles Davey and Peter Fox began in the Teesside area to see if there was similar interest to the south, and these resulted in a first meeting being held in The Ship in Redmarshall on December 5, 1966 – an earlier meeting had had to be postponed when a projector failed.

The club, which has a membership of about 300, organises 30 rides and gatherings every year, and raises money for the air ambulance.

The gathering at Hurworth is one of the highlights of the club's year, with more than 300 classic cars, motorbikes and stationery engines expected to be on display.

It is open to the public from 10am tomorrow to 4pm, and admission is £3.
