THE Northern Echo will be fielding questions from readers about how the newspaper and its website work tomorrow.

Editor Andy Richardson will answer questions posed by readers on Facebook and by email and Twitter between 1.30pm and 2pm on #trustednewsday, part of our campaign against fake news.

The Northern Echo has joined forces with our sister papers and local news outlets around the country to highlight the value of real news and a free press, at a time when rumour is presented as fact and the lines between real and fake news are more blurred than ever thanks to social media.

Andy said: "The Northern Echo has built up a reputation for publishing trusted news since 1870.

"It is the cornerstone of this newspaper's ideology. In an era where news can come from multiple sources, in print, on TV and online, it is important that our readers know that what they are getting from us is genuine.

"We urge you to join us in fighting fake news."

You can join us on Friday through this newspaper's website - thenorthernecho.co.uk - or ask us a question on Twitter @thenorthernecho, using the hashtag #trustednewsday or on our main Facebook channel.

Alternatively, email your question to matt.westcott@nne.co.uk
