ENTRIES are open for an annual award scheme for writers inspired by the North-East.

Winners of the Northumbrian Association Writers’ Awards 2017 will be announced at a ceremony held at Beamish Museum on June 30.

Aspiring writers are being asked to describe in up to 500 words what makes them proud of the North-East, whether it is the people, landscapes, buildings or way of life.

Previous entries have been inspired by the Angel of the North, Beamish Museum, St Mary’s Lighthouse and Kielder.

Entries can be prose, poetry or song and prizes will be awarded in three age categories: 11 to 14 years; 15 to 18 years and adults.

A panel of judges including North-East playwright, author and producer Michael Chaplin and local poet Natalie Scott will select the winners.

Richard Evans, Director of Beamish Museum and new Chair of the Northumbrian Association, said: “It’s a great way to highlight and celebrate the rich and diverse culture of the North-East.”

The winner in each category will receive £100 in Amazon vouchers.

The closing date for entries is Friday, May 26 at 5pm.

Entries should be emailed to emilyhope@beamish.org.uk or posted to Partnerships Office, Beamish Museum, County Durham, DH9 0RG.
