A STAND-UP poet is returning to the North-East for a show featuring some of the best young writers in the country.

Comedian and writer Kate Fox, a radio regular, will appear at the Gala Theatre in Durham on Friday as part of the Bang Said The Gun poetry night.

The Bradford-born poet, who lived in Newcastle for 13 years before moving to Thirsk, said much of her work is inspired by northern life.

“I’ve performed here probably once a year for various things since one of my first ever gigs as a poet, which was during the Durham Book Festival back in 2005,” she said.

“The North is where I first became a poet and I feel like I “get” audiences here."

She will be performing alongside Rob Auton and South Shields’ Scott Tyrrell, who won the BBC Poetry Slam champion during the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015.

They will also be joined by Dan Cockrill and Martin Galton, who co-founded the event almost 20 years ago.

Tickets, priced £15, are available from galadurham.co.uk or 03000 266 600.
