THE family of a Darlington man killed while riding home from work have said they want to encourage all cyclists to wear helmets and not use a mobile phone while riding.

Mr Wilson’s mother, Elaine, also thanked Darlington Football Club for dedicating a victory to Ryan Wilson, which the family described as “really special”.

Mr Wilson had just found out he was to be a father.

“We want to thank the club for everything they did – it was a very generous and Ryan would have been over the moon," she said.

“He is sadly missed by his sister, cousins and all of his family."

The family also praised the Great North Air Ambulance and staff at Argos for their support, before adding they apportioned “no blame” to the driver for the incident.

And Ms Blythe added: “I would say to anyone who rides a bike, do not use your phone - it is just not worth the risk.”
