RAILWAY enthusiasts can have a go at driving a historic locomotive on Bank Holiday Monday.
Weardale Railway is bring back its popular ‘Driver for a Fiver’ offer on May 1, with visitors given the opportunity to operate its Sentinel shunter throughout the day.
The shunter will be based on platform two Stanhope Station in County Durham and the following driving sessions are available; 10.40am to 11.55am, 12.15pm to 12.50pm, 1.10pm to 2.25pm and 3.10pm to 4.20pm.
Tickets can be bought from the inspector at Stanhope on the day or can be booked in advance by contacting marketing@weardale-railway.org.uk or 07719-757755.
Drivers must be aged 18 and over and must be accompanied by a member of staff from the heritage railway line.
