A REVITALISED market is set to reopen to the public on Thursday.

Durham Markets Company has taken over operation of Bishop Auckland’s Thursday Market, and is aiming to reinvigorate it with the support of new and current traders.

About 20 traders will be onsite in the Market Place and will offer a variety of products, including cheese, traditional sweets, cupcakes, spicy sauces, silk flowers and fish and chips.

Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets Company, said: “There is a real enthusiasm for this market, from both traders keen to be involved and local people eager to support the market.

“Now’s the time for everyone in and around Bishop Auckland to come along, meet our traders and find out about products they’re selling.

“Remember, any money you can spend with these small independent businesses is then pumped into our local economy, and that’s great news for Bishop Auckland.

“We’re concentrating initially on the weekly Thursday market and would love to hear from anyone who would like to trade at Bishop Auckland Market, as the greater the variety of traders we can have with us each week, the greater the appeal of the market.”
