TWO members of a cricket club are to walk to every league away fixture to raise funds for the Bobby Robson Foundation.

Former Shotley Bridge Cricket Club captain and record run scorer, Peter Collingwood, 44, will walk with club secretary, David Milburn, 50, covering an estimated 180 miles, the equivalent of over 14,000 runs.

Starting with Saturday’s away fixture at Ryton, the two will visit easy locations at the likes of Consett, Leadgate and Lanchester, but face daunting trips to Hexham, Gosforth, Tynemouth, Ponteland and Ashington.

David Milburn said: “We decided to promote the fund raising event by attempting something different.

“If we can ask each player from the home team to sponsor us for £2 per player, we should quickly raise £250. Further donations from supporters will, hopefully, boost this sum.

The club is holding a night in aid of the charity on Saturday August 19 with tickets priced £10 per person.

Peter Collingwood, brother of former England captain Paul, said: “We ask all teams in the league to support us and the charity on our trek.”
