A NEW Teesdale brewer has been given the go-ahead to sell his creations on-site.

Danny McColl ploughed more than £200,000 into his new business - McColl’s Brewery Ltd - after he took over a unit at the Randolph Industrial Estate, in Evenwood, in November.

However, the 35-year-old ran into difficulties when he applied for a full licence to sell alcohol from the premises which raised concerns with residents and Evenwood and Barony Parish Council.

After the concerns emerged Mr McColl reduced his application to a limited licence and councillors at County Durham’s Statutory Licensing Sub-Committee granted the licence with conditions at their latest meeting on Wednesday.

Mr McColl, of Middleton-in-Teesdale, said he was more than happy to comply with the conditions including only selling alcohol indoors, having CCTV, staff having strict training and allowing the police to access the property and CCTV.

Mr McColl said was relieved he would now be able to sell his traditional ales and offer tasters to those on brewery tours.

“It’s a huge worry off my shoulders,” he said.
